House & Home Deep pruning.
As I sit and type this it is heading toward the end of March, and at least here in the Costa Blanca north we have had several days of continuous rain. It may not be heavy but it is consistent, meaning compared to the last couple of years, our plants in the gardens are going to be having a proper drink. This will also have a massive effect on what you need to do in the garden.

At this time of year especially if you see new shoots on many plants, it means the plants are drawing sap and therefore they are starting to grow, this means get out your secateurs, loppers and hedge trimmers. This is the time of year when a good prune makes all the difference, don’t just give a plant a trim this is no good as when the plant increases massively through the season, you may fi nd yourself having to trim it back a few times and in the process lose fl owers which you don’t want to do.
You will also fi nd that with having a good watering now, when we do have some good warm weather your plants will explode into life, so please prune now before your garden turns into a jungle. If you prune your garden correctly, and at the correct time you actually reduce the amount of maintenance it requires over the year. It will also keep your plants in a healthier state and give great blooms during the year. The same applies to trees and shrubs. So don’t be afraid to cut deep, if you have any questions never be afraid to ask me and I will always advise where possible. Some plants do vary a little but in general most plants here are very hardy and can almost be stumped and they will still re-grow. If you do it properly, you will have a lot of waste so you may fi nd it more sensible to get yourself a skip for green waste. Do the right thing for your garden, give it a good trim and you will be surprised by the results you get.
