Harrison Murray’s charity coffee morning

Outgoing president chooses charities ‘close to her heart’

The Bristol Property Agents Association has presented cheques to two charities following 12 months of intensive fundraising activities across the city from boules competitions to quiz nights. Outgoing president Jayne Rixon, a

partner with city commercial property experts Burston Cook, chose the Help 4 Heroes charity, which will receive £4,500 and Sarcoma UK, which will receive a cheque for £3,500. The association’s fi rst female president

Harrison Murray have been among the many local companies raising funds in memory of Leicester lad Harley Staples, who lost his fi ght against cancer last year. Harley’s story captured the hearts of

people from the area, and his family is now raising money – having set up The Harley Staples Cancer Trust to build a respite holiday home in his honour, offering a break to bereaved families or sick children. The family has already raised more

than £200,000 towards their goal. Support has been pledged from Leicester City FC and a number of local businesses and well-wishers. Harrison Murray, who along with

Harley’s friends, family and supporters, attended a recent coffee morning at the town’s Civic Centre, which raised £600. The Enderby branch is also

distributing promotional vouchers to homes that may come up for sale. If the owner instructs Harrison Murray the company will donate £50 to Harley’s trust when the property sells. Enderby branch manager Sara

Quatermass said, “We know that Harley would want us all to continue to help his friends who are still battling with their illnesses and any other children who have to fi ght a potentially life threatening illness.”

Mannings for Macmillan

Manning Stainton has launched its Mannings for Macmillan 2012 campaign, pledging to raise £50,000 which will fund one specialist cancer nurse for a year in our region. Russell Manning says, “Having lost my beautiful wife Amanda last year to this dreadful disease sadly I know only too well how dedicated these special people are and the absolutely incredible work they do, always with deep

compassion, dignity and care. “The whole Manning Stainton team has

committed to hosting a very wide range of fund-raising events throughout the course of the year, one event is “I’m an Estate Agent – Get Me Out of Here”. I am told it’s a cross between a Treasure Hunt, a Cross Country Race, a Quiz, Orienteering and an Endurance Test! “I know the demands on all of our

pockets for many worthy causes are signifi cant but I would ask you to be generous and support this incredible and absolutely necessary organisation to ensure that the work they do not only continues but enables their services to reach more and more people and have a greater and greater impact.” www.justgiving.com/OpsBoard-

Manning-Stainton

in 65 years said it had been a challenging but hugely enjoyable year: “These charities are very close to my heart and I am delighted the BPAA has been able to make such a positive contribution to their funds.” “I chose Sarcoma UK in tribute to Euan

Cresswell, one of our property industry clients who was diagnosed with the rare

sarcoma cancer in 2010 and sadly died months later at the age of 50.” Jayne chose the Help 4 Heroes charity

after hearing fi rst-hand about the plight of wounded British Service personnel from husband Mark, who retired from the Army in 2007. She said: “The nature of the recent

confl icts in Iraq and Afghanistan has resulted in a steady stream of young people with life-changing injuries and with which the existing medical services were ill-prepared to cope.” The BPAA raised the money through a

series of events including boules, golf and tennis tournaments, a quiz night as well as their annual dinner. Former Royal Marine offi cer turned TV personality Monty Hall made a signifi cant contribution to the funds raised.
