P.7 children led our whole school Remembrance Day Assembly on 11th November.
Newton Primary School The
children prepared a very clear PowerPoint with fi lm clips and photos to help us all understand the history of the poppy, and what happens on Remembrance Day. The children read out the poem’ In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae and some of their own very descriptive compositions.
In music the children have been learning songs from WW1 and WW2 and they sang those to us beautifully while instrumentalists on violin, cellos and fl utes accompanied the singers. Wonderful artwork from the children formed the backdrop to the assembly. Some of the children explained the story of the white poppy and all our hopes for future peace. Together we sang gently ‘We will Remember’. By Primary Seven
Turn your thoughts on this occasion To those who fought and died in the war Years have passed and time has forgotten, But we will remember the soldiers once more
On the 23rd and the 30th of October P.6W went skiing at Firpark in Tillicoutry. When we got there, we were fi tted with our boots, helmet and skis then we went out to the slope. Exciting!
When we were outside, we were split up into two groups; one for people who hadn’t skied before and the other for people who had skiing experience. The beginners group were kept busy
practising skills like putting skis on, getting up again when you fall over, shuffl ing forward, sidestepping up the hill as well as learning how to brake – very important! The other group practised using the tow and were able to ski from the top of the slope while they practised turning and steering.
Everybody had a good time over the two days and did really well. We didn’t fall that much! by Holly Brown and Louise Anderson.
This term, in Primary 6M we have been learning about the ship ‘Titanic’, it has been fun learning about the Titanic because some of the tasks we have done were extremely exciting e.g. making a timeline, presentations to the class and also doing a Titanic drama.
Our class went skiing on a dry ski slope and learned about the pizza shape and how to stop on skis.
