Little Boxes, Little Boxes...

For those readers who are old enough to remember the 1960s song, the “little boxes” in the song “all look just the same”!! The Rotary Shoe Boxes also “all look just the same”, but inside each one is quite individual.

Each Christmas, members of the Club along with other supporters, will fi ll over 500 “Shoe Boxes” with gifts for distribution overseas to young children, teenagers, and households, in a selected area where it has been agreed the recipients have the greatest need of support.

At this time of year, our own families and households spend considerable sums of money on luxuries for themselves, colleagues and friends. But in most cases, the Rotary Shoe Boxes are fi lled with very modest items: toys, clothes, cosmetics, personal and household care items, which we would normally treat as day to day items, or at best “Christmas Stocking fi llers”. However, to the recipients they are wonderful luxuries which they could not usually get, or aff ord.

The Club is very grateful to the following schools and organisations who are participating in this year’s project:- Queen Victoria School, Beaconhurst School, Bridge of Allan Primary School, Dunblane Primary School, Dunblane Boys Brigade.

If you would like to fi nd out more about the scheme, please email: international@ dunblanerotary.org.uk

Also, at this time of year the Club, with the assistance of the Interact Club at Queen Victoria School, arranges “A Christmas Treat” for the senior citizens in our community. This is held at QVS, and involves an evening of entertainment, along with refreshments.

President Peter Farr, the Council and members of the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane, would like to take this opportunity to thank all those in the community who have attended, helped at or donated to one or more of our various activities throughout the year; and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
