Opening September 2014 How you will study
Students and staff will use iPads in order to make the most of the latest education technology. Students will access a wide range of study resources and textbooks via iPads, which will be issued to each student, and which they will use both at NCS and for their private study.
NCS students will be taught in classes, lectures, and through small-group tutorials with their subject tutors. Each student will have a personal tutor and every student’s programme is individually designed to maximise study opportunities and prepare students for successful progression to university. NCS students will also undertake private study in the dedicated sixth form library and learning resource centre to underpin their taught classes.
The extra-curricular programme
The NCS extra-curricular programme will complement the taught study programme, and will enable students to follow their interests and try new activities to widen their knowledge and skills, and enhance their CVs and university applications.
Students will be able to choose from a number of different activities, including learning a new language, taking part in sports, arts, music, community volunteering and community involvement. Students will also take part in a university preparation programme, including visits and activities with universities, and personalised preparation for university applications.
Sports
NCS students will have student membership of East Ham Leisure Centre, which is located next to the NCS student and tutorial centre. The Leisure Centre offers a 25m swimming pool, climbing wall, gym, racquet sports, a dance studio and opportunities to engage in a number of different sporting activities and team sports.
Where is Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre?
NCS is located on the East Ham Town Hall complex in Barking Rd, East Ham. It’s easy to travel to the centre from anywhere in Newham and other local areas. Bus routes 5, 58, 101, 104, 115, 147, 238, 300, 235, 375, and 474 all stop very close to the centre, and East Ham Station (District Line) is only five minutes walk from NCS.
How can I find out more?
If you are predicted to achieve a combination of A* & B grades at GCSE, and you are interested in studying the subjects we are offering, then NCS could be the place for your sixth form study.
The NCS team will be visiting partner schools and colleges to speak with pupils and parents and will be holding information evenings locally. For dates and more information visit the website.
