l Anyone aged 16 and above can become an apprentice – whether you are just leaving school, have been working for years or are seeking to start a new career.


l As an apprentice, you will earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills.


l You will also receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.


l Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship and what industry you are working in.


l Organisations of all sizes offer apprenticeships – from large multi-nationals to small and medium sized enterprises.


l The government is planning to offer 50,000 more apprenticeship places.


l You might also be able to do a pre-apprenticeship programme if you are not yet ready for a full apprenticeship.

You can apply for vacancies online using the Apprenticeship Vacancies Service that lets you search for, view and apply for opportunities. Some employers and providers (colleges) will also have systems to receive applications directly.


In all cases, the Apprenticeship vacancy will have entry requirements and a selection process that you will need to go through.
