CHAMBER CHAT With Blair Stevenson, Projects Assistant, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce

BUSINESS Describe your role/job? I am the Projects Assistant at Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. It is my job to provide support for the Projects Team and Projects Director. I mainly provide project management support to the Projects Team and I am responsible for managing the department’s project plans and budget plan.

What skills do you bring to the table/are required in your role? I would say the skills needed to perform the role would definitely be strong organisational experience. I have a history in events which has transferred positively to this role. I would also highlight the need for flexibility as projects work can be diverse. I work with a very unique group of people, so relationship skills have definitely come in useful.

What has been your career highpoint? Glasgow Chamber purchased two bee hives from our member Plan Bee. It was my duty to source a location for these. This was by far the most original task I have ever been asked to do and will be used as an ice-breaker for years to come.

What’s the best thing about Glasgow Chamber of Commerce? The people are the best thing about Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. I refer to both staff and members. The relationships I have built and the advice I have received during my time with the Chamber have been invaluable, and I look forward to building that network further.

What one thing would you wish for Glasgow in the future? Improved international exposure, especially for the creative sectors. I believe that Glasgow punches above its weight in terms of producing

incredibly talented creative thinkers, whether that is in terms of theatre, music, film or the written word and that it will continue to do so. I would love to see some more of these people create a significant international following.

PERSONAL What do you do to relax at the weekend? Music plays a massive part in my life, and I spend most of my weekends managing and progressing local music acts. I enjoy the thrill of spotting potential and working to ensure that this potential develops into something great.

What is your favourite city outside the UK and why? My favourite city outside of the UK is Alkmaar in Holland. I have family in that part of the world and I have visited it regularly from a young age. It is a beautiful city with friendly people and a host of attractions.

Name your favourite book, film and album? Book: The Street Lawyer by John Grisham Film: The Boondock Saints Album: Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation by Funeral for a Friend.

What is your most embarrassing or humbling experience? My father has always been an exceptional footballer, playing with several teams during a prolific career. Despite our age difference, I still can’t get the ball from him. I am resigned to the fact that I never will.

If you could host a dinner party with four guests, who would you choose (two living, two dead)? James Brown, James Dean, James Cordon and the lead singer of the band James.
