brainchild of women’s football organiser Maureen McGonigle. Tennis coach Judy Murray, Sports Minister
Shona Robison and Baroness Sue Campbell MBE CBE and Chairman of UK Sport, were among the high-profile line-up at the recent conference in RBS Gogarburn.
fantastic overview of her career to date and the challenges she faced as a female coach. Shona Robison opened our conference and addressed many stereotypical obstacles women face in the sporting world. “We have a clear vision and high-profile
medal-winning women on board, such as Judy Murray, Dr Katherine Grainger, Shona Robison and Baroness Sue Campbell. Tere is a clear appetite to see women recognised in
sport. We all want to encourage young girls to remain active in their sport of choice. If they see role models and mentors in the media then they will feel that they too can maintain an active life.” Glasgow Chamber has given practical
support to the organisation which hopes to improve media atention given to female achievement in sport and tackle issues such as body image, retention of interest in sport, health and self-esteem.
