Market yourself better!
Most people when seeking a new job rewrite their CV, visit job sites, see jobs and click apply. The result is usually disappointment. Here is what to do to make employers take notice of you.
1. A cutting edge CV Your CV needs to refl ect your achievements, strengths and career goal. Ideally two pages maximum – employers don’t have time to read long CV’s. They want to know what you can do for them and no more. Having some visual appeal without going over the top can also be helpful.
2. A good LinkedIn profi le People do get jobs as a result of their LinkedIn profi le. Employers often check out prospective employees by looking at what they have online, and most LinkedIn profi les are not very good. Having one that stands out will help you in your job search.
3. A persuasive elevator pitch Imagine you’re talking to an employer you want to work for. You have 90 seconds to convince them that you’re the person for them. What do you say to sell yourself? When meeting new people, at networking events and at interviews, an elevator pitch is essential if you want to get that job.
4. Target desirable employers Research the employers you’re interested in, and write a well targeted letter to them, pointing out what you know about them, why you’re interested, and how you can help. But don’t just send the same letter to loads of employers hoping they’ll be interested. They won’t be.
Good luck. Mark@Brilliant Futures
