There is a great deal more to Rotary than just Fundraising!

In the local area The Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane is mostly recognised by the public for its fund raising; particularly through the “Duck Race”. While this is a vital part of the Club’s activities, it is really just the public face of the Club.

Key to the success of any Rotary club is what binds together the membership, not just in the local community, but also throughout the world. This is the “Family and Friendship” factor which will be found throughout the movement.

At each meeting we toast “The Family of Rotary”. Rotary is the largest

charitable

organisation in the world, and has affi liated clubs in most of the counties throughout it. Many of our members when travelling on holiday, or on business, make contact with the local Rotary Club in the places that they are visiting. Equally our Club welcomes Rotary members from all corners of the globe. Each week one of the members is responsible for ensuring that anyone who visits the Club is made most welcome be they a fellow Rotarian or not.

As regards “Family”, this very much applies to the members themselves. Should a member or his close family suff er illness or death, then support is off ered both at the time and thereafter.

Finally, there is the “Friendship Factor” within the Club where all members and visitors are made very welcome. While we do make a huge commitment to supporting many very worthy causes, we also enjoy a lot of friendly banter and no one is allowed to take themselves too seriously!!

In future articles, we will explain more about the works of the various committees which make up the heart of the Rotary movement.

If you would like to fi nd out more, contact us or better still, come along to one of our meetings – details are on our website: www. dunblanerotary.org.uk. You will be made very welcome.
