The MoD has amended the Pension rules. The benefits for surviving same sex spouses are provided on the same basis as those for surviving civil partners.

Brize Norton On Air


Brize Norton is the first RAF station in the UK to have its own BFBS radio station. Live on DAB across Oxfordshire it can also be heard at Benson, Fairford, Abingdon, Didcot and Shrivenham.

RAF TriStar retires


The RAF’s 12 (B) Sqn and 617 Sqn have bid farewell to active service with a disbandment parade at RAF Lossiemouth. 617 Sqn will reform operating the F-35 Lightning.


Increase of NHS staff in Reserves


Plans to expand the number of NHS staff who train as reservists have been explored at the reservist summit.

A story in the media claims the MoD is censoring an advertisement in internal Service publications that highlights the plight of widows who lose the rights to claim their spouse's pension if they remarry.


Muslim Chaplain receives OBE


Imam Asim Hafiz, Islamic religious advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff and service chiefs, received an OBE for his services to defence and support of operations in Afghanistan.

The RBL are sponsoring two weeks of activities for Service families in Aug 14. Poppy Breaks are organised by RAF Community support and delivered by the YHA.


Delivery of the Mark 6 Chinook


The first of the RAF’s fourteen new Mark 6 Chinook helicopters have been unveiled by the Defence Secretary, Philip Hammond, following its entry into service.
