Moving Forward In 2014
IT’S BEEN A BUSY 12 MONTHS FOR MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ELITE SPAS LTD AND CURRENT BSPF PRESIDENT ISSY RICKARDS SANGER, AND THIS YEAR SHOWS NO SIGNS OF EASING UP FOR ONE OF THE INDUSTRY’S MOST FAMILIAR FACES
t is a great honour to be asked to take on the role of President of the BSPF for 2014/2015. Taking over from Martin Borley – who has been in the industry far longer than I have, has been difficult enough in itself. Knowing that I follow in the footsteps of so many other respected swimming pool and hot tub people who have been held in enormous respect by the rest of us in the industry leaves me slightly daunted, but ready for the challenge of my year in post! The fact that I am only the third BISHTA Chairman and also the first female to be BSPF President (but following in the footsteps of Patricia Carr who was SPATA’s only female President) hopefully gives me a useful insight to bring my own expertise to the industry.
I
I am very passionate about what we (Elite Spas) do for the industry and feel very strongly about how to ensure that every aspect of the industry can be reviewed and modernised, where applicable to be fit for purpose in the 21st century. I am conscious that some of my predecessors may be slightly concerned at what I am hoping to achieve, but only through effective discussion can we then agree what changes should be made to enhance the industry that we all love.
Unfortunately the spa industry isn’t getting any bigger, in actual fact it’s been shrinking for a few years, but I am hopeful that it is now on the way back up. I remember ten years ago exhibiting at SPATEX (at our former location) in Brighton for the first time and being upstairs in the far corner, which later became

the storage room. Back then, every bit of space was taken up and utilised by exhibitors and a lot of those were spa companies. Now however, the challenge for SPATEX is to ensure that it is both a pool and a spa show and I feel that it could benefit from some fresh ideas to make itself an even bigger and better show, I am looking forward to discussing this at the BSPF Board meetings this year.
We took our dealers to Houston earlier this year to experience Sunbelt’s new state of the art factory, the Rodeo and all of the Rodeo sights! Of course, we couldn’t go to Houston without taking our guys shooting and shopping! It was absolutely fantastic, and for us this year, the right decision to make! These last 12 months have been really busy for us, we’ve moved
premises, built our own purpose built distribution centre, which I must say is much better than where we were previously and if any of our dealers are reading this, they

will completely know where I’m coming from! We’ve also incorporated a Beauty Salon within our showroom, called ‘Tranquility Yeovil’. Well, the show season is just starting for us now, and what a busy one we have ahead! We’re exhibiting at approximately 25-30 shows this year and have a great new purpose built smaller exhibition trailer, which has already shown its’ value by being easy to set up and take down. I think we managed a record 40 minutes at the last show!

with everyone at our
‘Tranquility Yeovil’ Beauty Salon
President’s Weekend from Friday 19th – Sunday 21 September at the Cricket St Thomas Hotel in Somerset. Hopefully it will be a bit of fun for everyone with our ‘activities challenge’ taking place on the
Saturday morning! The AGMs for the BSPF,
BISHTA and SPATA will be held on the Friday at the same venue, and I do hope you will be able to join us for both eve nts! For more information regarding these events,
