POOL CAMPAIGNERS CLOSE IN ON TARGET

Plans to build another swimming pool in Mid Devon are well under way after a housing developer pledged £40,000 towards the project. With the pledge, the Cullompton Swimming Pool campaign will have raised £98,000 towards the project to build the 25m indoor facility at the town’s Padbook Park Hotel. Dave Haslett, Chairman of the Cullompton

Swimming Pool Campaign, said: “We need to raise £150,000 locally to demonstrate the need and demand for the pool and to prove we are capable of raising funds locally. Once we reach that £150,000 we can apply for national funding in the form of grants from Sport England, the Big Lottery Fund, and so on.“ Proposals for the pool have been modelled on community swimming pool schemes elsewhere in the country, with a revenue generating hydrotherapy pool planned as part of the project.

CASH-STRAPPED COUNCIL LOOKS AT PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY Walsall Council is looking at creating more modern leisure facilities in the town centre as part of a partnership with a private car park operator.

Bosses have been looking at an unconfirmed site for the possible complex which could see swimming and leisure provided at the base and car parking above. Initial discussions have taken place and come after the cash-strapped council had looked at the potential for a £1m revamp of the town’s outdated Gala Baths.

Best In The World The spa at a prestigious North East hotel has been voted one of the best in the world. The award-winning Serenity Spa at five star Seaham Hall, County Durham, was the only spa in the region to be included in the Top Santé 100 best spas list – placing it alongside world famous venues such as Babington House in Somerset and the renowned The Ashram in California. The Serenity Spa, which has an eastern influence and extends over three floors, boasts a range of facilities including a crystal light sanarium, a black granite steam room and a 20 metre massage pool. In its listing within Top Santé’s Country Escape category, particular mention is also made of its garden view therapy rooms, where therapists provide face and body treatments using either Elemis or Darphin products. “We are delighted, although not entirely surprised, to be included in this list,” said Seaham Hall’s General Manager Ross Grieve. “From the outdoor hot tubs, overlooking our 37 acre grounds, to the immense thought and attention to detail that has gone into every aspect of Serenity Spa, it really is a very special place. I defy anyone not to leave feeling totally soothed and refreshed.”
