Dunblane Raises £14,000 in Memory of Cancer Fundraiser Linda Seal

TWO cancer charities have received a massive boost worth £14,000 thanks to the success of a fundraising event held in memory of Dunblane resident Linda Seal. Strathcarron Hospice and Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief charities both received cheques at a special handover by Linda’s family held on Friday 23 May at Strathcarron Hospice. £9,500 went to Strathcarron Hospice and a further £4,500 went to the Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief charity.

Linda’s husband Andrew Seal is delighted to see that the funds raised will be going to such wonderful causes. He said: ‘’The support shown for Linda and our whole family has been tremendous right through her illness. Even after she passed away, people were inspired by her to turn up in their hundreds to what turned out to be a fabulously fun afternoon at the Hydro. To have raised £14,000 is something I am sure Linda would have been very proud of.’’

Linda, who had lived in Dunblane with her family since 1977, spent most of her working career at the Dunblane Hydro. But she was also well known in the community for her own fundraising on behalf of cancer charities after her father Ian Scott passed away from the illness in 1993. When Linda herself was then diagnosed with cancer she continued with many more events including several Races for Life, the Moonlight Tiara walk and having two previous ladies charity events.

Having battled with breast cancer for 8 years Linda Seal, aged just 50, sadly passed away on 5th December 2013. Right up to her final days at Strathcarron Hospice, Linda was helping to finalise the Ladies Afternoon Tea at the Hydro. Over 350 ladies turned out for the charity Ladies Afternoon Tea held on 23rd February at the Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro Hotel.

Linda’s 17 year old son Jack also raised £1,850 from fellow pupils at Dunblane High School before having his legs waxed in front of all the ladies. Also Cameron Gordon, age 10, raised £554.21 by having a non uniform day and guess the teddy bears birthday at Newton Primary School in Dunblane. There was also a collection after her funeral which raised a further £3,000 for Strathcarron Hospice.

The family and organisers would like to thank both schools and also everybody who generously donated.
