hile the West Country is renowned for its grass fed meat and


fresh fi sh, it is also an inspira- tional area when it comes to growing vegetables. From organic box delivery schemes to specialist


vegetarian restaurants, cookery classes and even a festival, there is something for everyone, even if you aren’t a strict vegetarian or vegan.


VEG BOX SCHEMES


Joining a vegetable box scheme is a brilliant way to ensure your whole family eats local, seasonal produce. There are many veg box schemes available in all corners of the West Country. Many have the added bonus of being organic, like Shillingford Organics and River- ford, while others are community schemes such as Community Farm and Camel Community Sup- ported Agriculture. Not only does choosing a local scheme mean supporting the local community, it


also means that you eat what’s at its best each season – just imagine all the asparagus and new potatoes available right now!


VEGETARIAN RESTAURANTS


As you might expect, the West Country is home to some outstand- ing vegetarian restaurants. Many of them are so good that carnivores don’t even miss the meat. Tierra Kitchen in Lyme Regis is renowned for its European inspired menu, while Maitreya Social in Bristol has a laidback feel and Acorn Veg- etarian Kitchen in Bath has many creative, seasonal dishes on the menu. Then there’s The Bean Inn in St Ives and not forgetting Samphire Brasserie in Plymouth.
