20 New Vehicles for

2014

By ART STEVENS

In early spring, car lovers look forward to seeing the new models almost as much as they

do their front lawn. Here are some of the vehicles they’ll be checking out – vehicles that have undergone significant design or content changes for the 2014 model year.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray The shape might remind you of previous ‘Vettes, but the 2014 Corvette is new from the

ground up. The car brilliantly reflects themes and shapes from the body to the interior. The cockpit design has almost all Corvette fans talking about this long-awaited improvement. The engine is a newly-designed 6.2 litre LT1 V8 engine generating 455 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. Its direct injection and variable valve timing significantly improves the previous 6.2 engine’s ratings. (A Z51 performance option kicks the engine to 460 h.p. along with performance suspension, exhaust, brakes, larger wheels and tires. (Chevrolet states the Z51 Corvette does 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.) A seven-speed manual transmission or no-extra-cost six-speed automatic transmission move this outstanding car.

Toyota Corolla Toyota’s best-selling compact is getting closer to the mid-size Camry with the addition

of four additional inches to the vehicle’s length. While significantly more stylish than the previous Corolla, the same base four-cylinder 132 horsepower engine is carried over. An optional 140 horsepower engine is available. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is offered on the Corolla for the first time, with the exception of the base model.

Acura MDX The seven-passenger MDX now has a softer ride and nearly a 30 per cent improvement

in highway fuel economy. Also new for 2014 is standard front-wheel drive with AWD now as an option. Extra room behind the third row of seats has been added, while the number of dash buttons has been cut to nine from 41 by incorporating the use of a touch screen.
