to Thursday. It was challenging to schedule my flu puking times to just those times. Now with a team, they’re open many more hours, including some evening ones and weekends.

There are some peculiarities

about the new pack of doctors world. Mine is housed sort of in a grocery store. In fact the entrance is through the grocery store’s pharmacy department. I have to weave through the feminine hygiene product and makeup aisles to get to the medical office. I hope the store isn’t counting on me making any emotional purchases on the way in.

The medical team has rules. My

old doctor’s rules were understood. You walk in, give your name, sit quietly in the waiting room, read a five year old Chatelaine magazine, and hope he’s not running more than

an hour late. Today’s medical office TELLS me to arrive not just on time, but early. In fact, if you arrive at the appointed hour, you might miss your appointment and possibly be charged a missed appointment fee. Huh? You’ll charge me for being on time? So they demand patients arrive 15 minutes early. If you arrive 12 minutes early, you may have those three minutes docked from your appointment. “Mr. Bercuson, you’re sick.

It’s the ‘flu. The vomit colour is because...oh geez, look at the time... well, thanks for stopping by.” There are other rules: • No shopping carts in the medical office. Makes sense to me. The milk would just go bad. • Don’t touch medical equipment. As if I’d know how to use a colonoscopy scope. Or is that thing for intubation?

• But now I have a doctor. He’s a nice young guy who assures me he successfully completed med school.

What more could I ask?

Richard Bercuson is a healthy Ottawa writer who actually does not know how to intubate. He can be unearthed at richardbercuson.ca <http://richardbercuson.ca>
