By BRIAN WARREN We found out about a great

man cave recently when I was working a booth at a renovation show. Karen Colburn of West

Wind Design Group introduced herself and her husband as a couple of bike enthusiasts who had designed a beautiful man cave in Ottawa’s south end. So, after a few emails,

Karen arranged for Bounder’s photo guy, Todd Langille, and me to check it out. The owner of the man cave

grew up in Cobourg, where his parents owned a German pub. A lot of the inspiration for the design comes from there. If you like the look and

feel of old wood (which I do), you’ll instantly fall in love with this place. The floors are solid wood

imported from B.C.; the bar top is reclaimed hemlock from a barn floor; and an old barn sliding door covers a storage space. The ceilings were left open

and are insulated with two-inch rigid foam. The bar is a showpiece.

Built into it is a two-tap beer dispenser that holds two kegs. The railings were all hand forged in Almonte. Of course, the entire area is

smart-wired. Man cave renovator, Mike

Hickey, and apprentice Dan Stuckless, along with Karen, spent countless hours making this a work of art. Great job.

Got a man cave? Bounder may want to feature it in one of our issues. Send a photo to boundermag@gmail.com and we’ll check it out!
