points in between. Strangely enough, I came upon a 1931
Ford model A roadster a few years later, but I didn’t have the money to jump on it (regret, regret, regret). Just to whet your interest, I checked
lately and the ’36 Pontiac and Indian motorcycle are still there. (Don’t bug me about them. I’m not telling.) While I’m in the “remember when”
mode, here’s a few things that my kids don’t have a clue about: • Remember the 45 RPM record
spindles that always went missing and you had to spend 10 minutes trying to centre them by hand? And there was always a “wow” in the record but you’d play it anyway? • Remember watching Marlin
Perkins’ Wild Kingdom, where everything was staged? “…Suddenly, without warning, there was a tiger on the path; then out of the bushes an anaconda attacked it [never mind that they came from different continents]”? And how it was always his faithful assistant who jumped in to save the day, never Marlin? • How about Studebakers, especially
the bullet nosed ones? You never see them again. • How about washing machines
with roller wringers? Did anyone ever put something in one to see how flat it would come out? • How about erector sets? These sets
would let you build all sorts of things! • How about penny candy? Off you’d
go to the corner store to cash in some empty bottles and scarf up things like: spearmint leaves (two for a penny), liquorice threads (in black, red, green, grape, root beer etc.) • How about the test pattern on the
TV? I’d sit for hours waiting for the Indian to do something. Well we had a tough winter this
year, and the worst of it’s over. Fishing season’s just around the corner and better times are on their way. So keep your sticks on the ice and
put a heater in the outhouse. See you soon.
