As the Barrett Jackson Auctions come

to an end, and daylight hours are getting longer by minutes a day, thoughts switch to our classics that are stored away for the winter. We know those hazy, lazy days of summer are right around the corner. When I was growing up in Ottawa in

the 1960s, a summer night often consisted of a few drag races on Carling Ave, a drive-in movie at the Britannia Drive-In or at the Auto Sky Drive-In, followed by a hamburger and fries at The Royal Burger. Ten years ago, while I was yearning to

re-live those fantastic days, I popped out to a Hazeldean Cruise Night and saw the most awesome display of old cars. There were Corvettes from the 50s to the 2000s, Thunderbirds from the famous 1955 model to the late 60s, old coupes, trucks, Camaros,

Chevelles, Studebaker Avanti, trucks, Model Ts.

The impulses were flowing as I saw

three or four cars for sale; but before I went any further, I thought it best to check with Larry Way. Larry is a legend in the classic car world,

not only in Ottawa but all of Canada and the United States. He’s an International Show Car Association Judging Supervisor and has been judging custom car shows throughout Canada and the U.S. for 35 years. He’s considered a Top 10 judge in North America. He was inducted into The Canadian Street Rod Association Hall of Fame in 1983. As if he’s not busy enough, he does car-

show public relations. He’s worked with many celebrities, including Happy Days
