Sebastopol, CA. ~ On September 14th and 15th, the mythical hamlet of Fenford appeared in Ives Park in Sebastopol during the Renaissance Faire known as Much Ado About Sebastopol. This faire was organized by the Sebastopol Education Foundation (SEF), the fund- raising arm of the Sebastopol Union School District. An authentic recreation of an English town in the year 1578, this Renaissance faire offers a combination of hands-on learning, the feeling of time travel, and family entertain- ment. The SEF has been host- ing this unique event as its major fundraiser since 2010. This year, the SEF raised $49,000 in total through this event in partnership with Analy High School and Sebastopol World Friends. The proceeds will benefit Sebastopol students at Park Side, Brook Haven, Analy

High School and through Sebastopol World Friends. Over 250 costumed actors portraying historical charac- ters came from all over the Bay Area to support this event. Several thousands guests attended this year’s faire, many of whom came from out of Sonoma County. Guests enjoyed making crafts, interacting with historical figures, and watching period entertainment.
Andrea Hagen Schmitz, Co-Director of Much Ado and also a teacher at Brook Haven School, states, “We are very proud of this event. It blends education and fun for all ages while raising money our schools desperately need. We
receive overwhelming support from the community: hun- dreds of volunteers, sponsors, teachers,
parents, students,
actors and people who come to the Faire. The commitment Sebastopol has demonstrated over the last four years to this event shows how much peo- ple value our schools. Even those who either no longer have students in our district, or never had, come out to help year after year because they believe in supporting educa- tion and enjoy the faire so much.” Next year, the town of Fenford will reappear in Ives Park on Sept. 13th & 14th.
