2 • November 2013 • UPBEAT TIMES Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. ~T.S. Eliot

corny...it is kind of true. While on a 17 mile hike for a photo shoot for this issue of the paper in northern Tahoe I stumbled across a tree that made me react with an epiphany. A tree, dras- tically weathered looked like a large 'U'. Of course, being an individual affected by images and pareidolia, I said to myself, 'Wow! You!, it's about you. Not in a selfish manner of course, but 'you' the reader. Those people who actually like life and want to share positive stuff with the world, so-to-speak. It must have been the thinner air at 9000 feet that inspired me, or it was the lack of air in the beginning of the hike. Walking from lake level seven and half miles up was invigo- rating and let my body know that I need to exercise a bit more.

I'm turning fifty in November and although it may be sig- nificant to others, I think fifty is the beginning of many great things to come. I feel as though I am just getting started and

SIGMOND'S GREENHOUSE by Paul Andrew Doyle, Publisher he 'U' in Upbeat says it all. Although kind of

building momentum for suc- cess in my life. By the way, the word you see floating in the photo, 'pbeat' was not there...which I'm sure you could guess...but just in case. But, I saw it as clear as day. I have read many books on visualization and a lot of them had great concepts to share, stating that if you visual- ize something you wanted to happen in your life, it would suddenly appear. This hap- pens pretty much only when I'm cooking. I see a nice plate of spaghetti, and wah-lah, two hours later, there it is. When I design the paper, it is not quite like that however. In the last four days before I go to press, it all falls together like clock work, as if the pieces suddenly merge by themselves.

A common theme as of late amongst fellow humans has been that time is whooshing by quicker than ever. It is, the busier we are. But. I manage to grab moments of relaxation with no computer/cellphone or TV's anywhere to be seen. I do however listen to a wide vari-

ety of musical styles, mainly because my lovely daughter Marie is in command of our car & home stereo system when not absorbed in homework. I can say some of it is pretty cool too, and I even like some of it. There was a time a few years back when my oldest daughter Samantha was commenting on the music she called, 'Your Era' and that it was kind of weird. But lo & behold, a year later she's trying to tell her mom and I that she likes this par- ticular song and its actually pretty cool!...From 'Our' era! Hilarious! With the holidays approach- ing, I try to remember that it is not the gifts I give that show those I know I care about them, but my time I spend with them. So, if your don't have enough money buy someone something, there are still many other ways to show your love! I hope you enjoy this newest

version of Upbeat Times and may it find you well and healthy!

I decided to have a little fun with the cover this month and keep the holidays light. Little does the the selected turkey know how fortunate he is after being pardoned by the president each year! We hope you like the november

cover! I wonder what country this issue will first appear in?

Have a wonderful holiday! P.A.D.

confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.
