SANTA ROSA, CA ~ What would happen if all of a sud- den a big black cloud settled right on top of your car and pelleted it with hail the size of footballs?
That is what the award-win-
ning Blake’s Auto Body com- mercial “Hail Storm” depicts. A father and his son watch their car bombarded with ice. They are then are sent to Blake’s locations in San Rafael, Novato, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa for repairs. The current commercial
received a bronze Telly award in the 2013 annual awards. This isn’t the first honor for the team that produces these spots. The creative pieces are the genius of producer Chuck Jessen, owner of Jessen Productions in San Rafael, and Blake Andros, owner of Blake’s Auto Body. The com- mercials have been feted with awards through the years. If you’ve seen a Blake’s Auto Body commercial you don’t forget them. The theme is usually the same — cars are destroyed
and Blake’s comes to the rescue — auto-
mobiles are hit by asteroids; hammered by hungry bears; or pummeled by an irate wife with a sledgehammer.
According to Jessen, who also wrote and direct- ed the pieces, every Blake’s commercial
entered honors in the
annual awards contest has received
including:
Sledgehammer, Falling Star, Snow Plow, Hungry Bear, Young Picasso, Short Cut and Wrong Turn. Spots have also been finalists for the coveted Clio awards. “We build com- mercials the same way we build cars,” Andros says. “We hire the best personnel, get the best script and see the best results.”
There are more than 10,000 entries for the Telly awards from all over the U.S., as well as internationally annu- ally. The award is one of the premier distinctions honoring outstanding regional, local and cable TV commercials and programming. Jessen, who lives in Mill
