Jordan is crammed with cultural activities and historical sites. Make sure that you visit the wonderful ruined city of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is just three hours away from Amman by car. In Amman there is the opportunity to visit the Citadel, which has been excavated to reveal many impressive remains including the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace. Just an hour’s drive from Amman is the Dead Sea, surely one of the world’s most amazing places? Found in the Jordan Rift Valley, the Dead Sea is over 400m (1,312 ft.) below sea level. Another place which should be a must on anyone’s list when visiting this part of the world is Madaba, 30km along the King’s Highway from Amman. This city is home to some impressive Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, including a mosaic map of the Holy Land. When in Jordan try to find time

to visit Kumbaz, one of the best kept secrets of haute couture in this region. It has for many years been quietly adorning royalty in the Middle East and beyond with timeless pieces, individually crafted through a journey into Arab and Oriental heritage. Established in 1985 by the Asfour sisters, Kumbaz’s handmade creations manifest timeless elegance that distinctively integrate contemporary design with the traditional art of embroidery. Using luxurious fabrics ornamented with crystals and antique accessories, each piece can take more than 2,000 hours to meticulously create. Among Kumbaz patrons are HM Queen Rania, HM Queen Noor, HRH Princess Haya Bint-Al-Hussein and HRH Princess Sibilla de Luxembourg. www.kumbaz.jo
