ast on the role call is Karim Sheikh. He first came to our attention when he won the Best Handicapped Player at
the 2011 end of season honours list at Guards. This year he’s astounded us again playing with his uncle, Mo Sheikh’s BHC Polo side with Roddy Williams and Juracy Santos – a player whom Karim admires on and off the field. Santos, a four-goal player from Brazil, has been a firm fixture in the family’s team for many seasons and has been a major influence on Karim’s game. At just 16, Karim plays at Guards as
often as he can when he’s not at school at Wellington College – although he manages to play there too. “Polo at Wellington has really grown and I do enjoy playing at school. Playing at Guards is obviously more competitive though as you’re up against some of the best players around.” Playing with and learning from the best is the best way to improve and we’re sure that Karim will take full advantage of these opportunities at Guards. He has seen the examples and benefits of many an amateur player playing with a professional handicap – like Satnam Dhillon here in the UK but also many Brazilian players he and his family have known. “I would like to carry on playing and just see how I develop as a player. There are many talented, young guys around at the moment who are doing very well. I love the game, but I just want to see how it goes.” Having played in Argentina and

Sotogrande, Karim would love to spend more time abroad improving his game. He clearly enjoys the competitive aspect of the sport but is obviously a bit of an adrenaline junkie too as wake boarding and water skiing are two of his other major loves. He also looks a bit like one of the One Direction boys so we’re pretty sure that he’s a major draw for Guards Polo Club for more than just his polo-playing skills! Away from the pitch? He loves music, such as Jay Z and Kanye West.
So with an entire winter of arena polo or perhaps a sneaky Christmas holiday trip to Argentina under their belts, Ten Goal is certain that this class of 2013 will continue to improve and impress.
