Young Players
JACKHYDE J
ack Hyde is undoubtedly a chip off the old block. With his Dad being Chris “The Prof” Hyde, you would be forgiven for thinking that Jack would either be brattish with all his Dad’s old high-goal ponies at his disposal or a total rebel, sick of the sport he would’ve seen so much of growing up. Well, you’re wrong on both counts. This student of the polo school never felt either compelled or forced into the game and we haven’t heard a bad word about Jack. It seems this Hyde has inherited his Dad’s polo-playing talents as well as his easy-going attitude.
in his father’s footsteps and believes the opportunity is out there for young players as long as they have the right attitude and a real passion for the sport. “Obviously I’ve been fortunate that Dad plays, and that I’ve grown up playing with his friends. I enjoy playing with Dad and my Godfather, Jonny [Good] the most because I feel I play at my best when I’m with them. They are both great players and it makes me better just being on the pitch with them.” Jack’s more than aware though that it is going to take more than

“Compared to many young players my age, I haven’t really been playing that long, only about four years. I just grew up around the sport and didn’t feel compelled to play.” He’s making up for lost time though
and Jack is becoming a regular feature on some of Guards’ most successful teams, such as the Mathias’s Clarita squad or Kassem Shafi’s Shalimar. Again, like his fellow class of 2013 peers, Jack would ideally like to follow

playing with his Dad to make it in the ruthless world of professional polo. It does seem, however that he has his heart set on a career in sport though and cites cricket and rugby as his other two great loves. “If I don’t make it in polo, I would definitely try and have a career in either of those sports.” Having played in the Coronel Suarez in Argentina with Pepe
Araya and received a few wise words of wisdom from Buster Mackenzie in South Africa, plus boasting a 9-goal arena player for a father, we think Jack just needs a little more faith that his polo-playing professional future is just ripe for the picking. Ten Goal is also aware that his parents are also pretty keen on him having an education to fall back on so keep your nose in those books too, Jack. Away from the pitch? Bar his rugby and cricket, it is pretty much polo, polo, polo.
