FEATURE Karen Kay Reports Acceptance, Love and Faery Dust! - Plus a Guinness World Record!!
During these interesting time in the build up to December 2012, we are seeing a lot more unusual weather systems, and apparently random acts of nature. flash flooding, forest fires, and the list goes on. I have spoken about this before, and will probably do so again! It is in these challenging times of instability that we need to seek within and find our own inner stability, where we feel safe and reside in love.
As many of you know I organise a large outdoor faery festival once a year in Cornwall, and this year the weather reports did not look to good (to say the least!). I knew that I could not control the weather and that it would be whatever it was meant to be, and who ever was meant to attend would do so - so really all I had to do was to trust and accept, which is exactly what I did. It was challenging, especially as all everyone was doing was talking about the weather! anyway, the Thursday before the festival during the set-up was extremely windy and raining heavily, and must say, I have nothing but admiration for all the staff, stewards and traders who worked through these conditions. The sun popped out from time to time just to remind us it was still there! the following days gave us a good ‘elemental’ mixture of sunshine, wind and light rain, and I even managed to get sun burnt!
There were many highlights for me, and I’m sure everyone has their own special memories from this magical weekend, but the World Record attempt for the largest gathering of faeries in one place was very exciting. There were 277 faeries, all dressed in tutus, carrying wands, and wearing wings. The photo shown gives you a little idea of what it was like! A real spectacle, and one we intend to repeat in 2013. We have just received official confirmation that we managed to break the Guinness World Record, which at the time was 67. Another attempt had been made at the strawberry Fayre in Cambridge a couple of weeks before 3 Wishes Faery Fest, but their’s has not had official recognition as of this time. Either way, it was so much fun trying, and everyone really got into the faery spirit! Even the guys who vowed they would never wear a tutu joined in too - it really was a wonderful sense of community. Brian and Wendy Froud said they had a wonderful time, and they gave a couple of talks and did some signing in the FAE booth, along with many other high profile speakers, authors and artists from the faery world.
