REMARKABLE Much loved author of the popular blog ‘From

Both Sides’, on facingcancer.ca, Alex was recent- ly selected as an Ambassador for ‘Look Good, Feel Better’, a foundation that has helped over 100,000 Canadian women manage the effects that cancer and its treatment have had on their appearance and their morale. Alex’s sincere zest for life has put her in demand as a positive role model, and she’s keen to impart her knowledge and share her success. From seemingly trivial but entirely signifi-

cant tips (“don’t open your eyes when you’re having an MRI”, “remember your eyebrow pen- cil in your purse” and “Dior is the best mascara for crying”), she has created, developed, and shared strategies to help others face the day... and the fight ahead. Dr. Alex Ginty has consciously chosen to

deal with cancer head on. By staying positive and inspiring others to do the same, she con- fronts not only her own cancer, but also the dis- ease in general.

A small dose of Vitamin ‘G’ Writing, art, exercise (tennis, swimming and

extreme sports), actions, attitude and the sup- port of friends have all been part of her prescrip- tion for survival, but Alex’s unique attitude and fighting spirit have made her, unequivocally, her own best medicine—something one of her col- leagues at Look Good Feel Better has branded Vitamin ‘G’. We spent nearly two hours together, just

having a casual chat. She has certainly earned the right to complain, but instead she doles out lessons about enjoying life, living in the present, being more aware of life’s blessings, and revel- ing in the candy store that we’re all in each day but that we sometimes just forget to see. This was only a tiny dose of Alex’s magic

prescription, and I’d like to come back for more. Her attitude is infectious—you want to be around her, to share her vivacious joy for life, and to let some of it rub off on you. Now, when I am having a bad day, I find my-

self thinking about some of her lessons, and her stories. I am reminded that I also have a choice to make. I, too, would rather go through life see- ing ‘the candy store’. Thank you Alex, I am in awe of the person

you have become, and I am certainly looking forward to my next dosage of Vitamin ‘G’.

An ORC member since 2005, Dr. Alex Ginty is a regular fix- ture on the tennis court and is grateful to her tennis partners at ORC for keeping their sched- ules open for her and for their valued support throughout this journey. She continues to play (and love) tennis as well as

other more extreme sports. For more inspiring words from Alex, please go to her blog ‘From Both Sides’ at www.facingcancer.ca.
