Last month I attended Support Con- nection’s Anniversary Celebration, where my co-publisher Dana Bou- langer was honored as Humanitar- ian of the Year. It was thrilling to see Dana recognized for her work with this organization, which provides hope and help to those with breast and ovarian cancer. There was a big turnout with lots of food, wine, and dancing—not the kind of thing I usually attend. Dana is the outgo- ing one on our team and I admit that
she had to coax me out from behind my desk. Once I was there, meeting lots of new and interesting people, I was really glad that I went. Seated at my table were several women from one of Dana’s smaller networking groups, a breakfast club that formed to support each woman’s business aspirations. After chatting with a few of these women I found myself wanting my own group (although maybe a lunch club, as I’m not exactly a morning person). There are actually many women’s networking groups in our area that are open and welcoming, as I learned when I interviewed several networking lead- ers for our article “Natural Networker.” Read about these inspiring groups to decide if you’d like to join one or even start your own! Stay-at-home moms can also network and learn natural lifestyle tips and strategies by dropping into a Holistic Moms meeting. See page 26. We are excited to bring you this month’s issue on Women’s Wellness, chock-full of helpful information to support you or the women in your life. We’ve got informa- tion on natural ways to stay healthy and balance hormones, a core element of physical well-being. Kathleen Barnes suggests solutions for every age group in “The Hormone Balancing Act.” See page 36. Do you see a surprising number of wrinkles when you look in the mirror? If so, consider forgoing synthetic injections and risky surgery and make appointments for more natural alternatives, such as facial acupuncture and Microcurrent Facial Sculpt- ing, mentioned in “Anti-Aging Skincare.” See page 30. And just say no to Brazilian Blowouts that straighten hair, unless you know for sure they are formaldehyde-free. See page 34 to learn more and find natural solutions for your hair care. To all of our male readers, be assured that we’ll spotlight men next month; we’d
love to receive your story ideas as soon as possible for our June edition. In the mean- time, we hope everyone will join us on Thursday, May 24, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Andy’s Pure Food in Rye for our second Healthy Happy Hour in the Natural Awaken- ings Network (NAN) series. For just $10, NAN members (or $15 for non-members) can sample all of Andy’s amazing, healthy and delicious food, most of which is gluten-free and dairy-free! My new favorite is their celery root salad. It’s all-you-can-eat so swing by after work with an empty stomach. More details on page 17. And join us for our next NAN meditation series event on Thursday, May 17, at
Transcendence at SunRaven in Bedford. If you’ve always wanted to experience the haven that is SunRaven, this is your opportunity. Holistic physician Michael Finkelstein and transcendental counselor Robin Queen will lead guests in a guided meditation. RSVP to 914.772.1257 if you plan to attend and arrive by 7 p.m. to secure parking, as space is limited.
Celebrating all who mother our world, with a special thank you to my mom, Joyce. Happy Mother’s Day!
