art of the beauty of summer is its laid-back pace. But slacking off on skin care can yield less-than-beautiful results, warns esthetician Allison Adamiak. “As we move
into the warmer months, we tend to adopt a carefree attitude which often carries over into our skin care routine,” she says. “It is important to remember that both winter and summer can be particularly harsh on our skin.” Adamiak, owner of Balance Day Spa in White Plains, NY, recommends incorporating several practices into a summer skin care routine, including a professional facial at the begin- ning of summer (or any change of season) and season-specific updates to skin care products. “Skin care is progressive,” she says. “As the season changes, so do the care needs of your skin. Your esthetician can recommend the appropriate prod- ucts for you for each season.” A lightweight moisturizer ap- plied morning and night can help mitigate the drying effects of exposure to air conditioning, heat and chlorine, while staying hydrated moisturizes skin from the inside out. Sunscreen ap- plied daily (and reapplied, as needed) should be part of every woman’s beauty regimen, she adds.
