The Ascot FS from Gainsborough After Gainsborough Specialist Bathing’s successful launch of the Ascot 1600, they continue to dominate the market. They add to that success with the Ascot FS, which is a variant of the Ascot but with a fixed seat transfer, and has been designed in response to customer feedback. Nigel Crook, sales manager at Gainsborough Specialist Bathing, com- ments: “The Ascot FS is proving such a success for the company because it combines state-of-the-art technology with practicality and ergonomic design. It features an auto- mated system, which seamlessly transfers the bather into

the water making the bathing experience effortless for not only the user, but the carer as well.” The system minimises the effort associated with manual handling in a care environment and is compact enough for people to have in their own homes.

Total approach delivers single-source compliance with code of practice

Under BS8300 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people – code of practice, all refurbishment or new build of transport hubs (bus stations, motorway services, airports etc.) should include enhanced toilet facilities, which should not just be accessible to people in wheelchairs, but those who cannot bend, with limited strength, balance and/or vision. In addition, there should be a Changing Places toilet. Developments at Total Hygiene mean it is now the only company in the UK that can, from one single source, supply, install and commission all the equipment needed to ensure compliance. Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene marketing manager, expands: “The specification of the range of disabilities that should be accommodated means that even the criteria of conventional accessible Document M and Changing Places type toilets do not meet all those needs. Limited strength and balance, for example, mean a person may need help physically getting on and off the toilet, or may struggle to use toilet tissue and wipe themselves clean but may not usually have a carer with them. Inclusion of a ‘wash and dry’ toilet and / or toilet lifter meets their needs. Provision of appropriate toilet facilities is proven to increase visitor numbers, as people will make a conscious decision not to go somewhere if they feel they cannot toilet in suitable, clean washrooms. However inclusive the building is to be, we can address and solve the toileting needs. Designers and specifiers therefore only need deal with one point of contact, accelerating the whole design to commissioning process and delivering best value practice.”

Duravit reinterpret the washing area The ‘Onto’ bathroom series from Duravit reinterprets the washing area. The ceramic is no longer placed on the console in the traditional way but, instead, the washbasin, either rectangular or round, becomes the support for the console, which fea- tures a gentle downward sweep at the front and clads the basin in a smooth curve. This creates a new, dynamic character that also ensures quick and easy assembly thereby reducing installation costs.
