groundworks Harmer SML and Duomat Tool
Harmer SML, the lightweight cast iron drainage system from Alumasc, has an established reputation for offering a total solution for soil and waste disposal, using leading edge cast iron technology and boasting a proven track record of more than 30 years’ use throughout Europe. Harmer SML is the optimum choice for soil and waste pipework, offering many advantages for contractors and end users both in terms of installation and performance. Cast iron is inherently robust and highly resistant to damage while its outstanding dimensional stability and high tensile strength eliminate the need for expansion joints and reduce the amount of fixing bracketry required. It is also non-combustible, offers excellent noise attenuation, tested to BS EN 14366: 2004 and is 100 per cent recyclable. The pipework comes with the option of two- part ductile couplings or unique stainless steel ‘Duo’ couplings that enable faster fixing and built-in electrical continuity, while the fixing positions on one side of the coupling allows ease of fixing in confined spaces. The unique Duomat Fixing Tool enables contractors to reduce installation time for the SML system by 50 per cent. The Duomat Fixing Tool is unique to the Harmer SML system and is suitable for use with any power drill. The tool enables both of the coupling bolts to be tightened simultaneously to the optimum torque setting of 7Nm-9Nm. Two independent preset clutches ensure the correct torque setting, irrespective of the pipe tolerances. The simple toggle adjustment allows for perfect Allen bit align- ment for all couplings from 50mm to 300mm diameter and once fitted, the stainless steel duo coupling is totally secure.
enq. 261 Hauraton drainage at Teesport Container Terminal 2
Completed in Autumn 2011, Teesport Container Terminal 2 – expansion phase 1, increases the port’s capacity to 450,000 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit), from its current 235,000 TEU – an investment of more than £15 million. The Terminal’s concreted area is over six hectares so effective surface water drainage was a major consideration to ensure efficient all- weather operation. The works involved the complete reconstruction of the terminal with a new heavy duty concrete standing area designed to resist the massive loads imposed by the container stacks. Designed to resist the rigours of site work, two sizes of Hauraton channel were installed. 44 metres of RECYFIX®
HICAP® 200 and 840 metres of HICAP®
680 installed in two runs. Each one metre unit was easily manipulated into position on site and no channel breakages were reported during the installation process. To further reduce installation times, end-of-run caps and pipe connection sockets were also supplied with other connection points moulded into the sides and bottom of each channel. Factory fitted with 14mm slotted ductile iron inlets, the channels comply with a loading class of F900 so can easily take the weight of a lifting truck with a fully laden container. Importantly, once installed the complete system is highly resilient to the twisting forces imposed by the wheeled vehicles employed.
