Green light for Glencorse
The new Glencorse Water Treatment Works, which will supply 450,000 customers across Edinburgh and parts of Midlothian, is getting the green light!
The water treatment works will receive its Ministerial ‘switch on’ when Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment turns on the tap at the Midlothian site on Wednesday March 7th.
This marks a major milestone in the history of the 5 year project and is a monumental day for Scottish Water. Following more than 9 months of collaborative working with AIM and CSD teams, CID’s Project Team has now completed work which will allow supplies to by-pass the Fairmilehead and Alnwickhill sites, our ageing water treatment works which have served Edinburgh well for more than 100 years.
The works has been tested and is now fully functional, so that introducing the new supply can be achieved without interruption or incident.
The Glencorse project has, quite rightly, received significant external and internal recognition, and it is a leading example of our vision in action. The team has worked hard to deliver the project using innovative and sustainable technologies and materials, and is a best practice example of what can be achieved when we truly work in partnership with the community.
Delivery of this great legacy for Edinburgh has required close working with many teams across Scottish Water, and this success is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of all those involved. I would like to sincerely thank all those involved in taking this flagship project through to this stage and wish all teams well as we prepare to make the final handover.
