Increased emphasis on employer/staff diversity


In 2010, 80% of patients surveyed responded they either agreed or strongly agreed it was important to them that Mountain Park employees were from different backgrounds. A diverse staff is important to our patients and to Mountain Park. We strive to create and maintain a staff that comes from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and experiences. Our strategies to accomplish this objective include: to expand partnerships to other communities and organizations we have yet to impact or collaborate with, increase our focus on generational diversity in the workforce, and create a more targeted recruitment of individuals with disabilities.

Grace Speights, a partner in the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP in Washington, D.C. echoed the importance of a diverse workforce when she told Commission members that most of her clients recognize that a diverse workforce gives them a competitive edge. “They therefore understand that it is important to build and maintain an inclusive workforce that draws on ideas and talents from all segments of the population,” she explains. Mountain Park strives to develop an inclusive workforce to create the same competitive edge, which will help us better serve our community.


Increase access to live interpreters in all Mountain Park Clinics


The Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service (CLAS) Standards provide healthcare organizations with a clear road map to providing care that is inclusive, respectful, and culturally and linguistically appropriate. Mountain Park recently insti- tuted a policy that states family members and minors shall not be used in place of interpreters. In doing so, we recognize that this means greater access to live and telephonic interpreters must exist. This also means creating a greater capacity inter- nally to continue to serve our limited English proficient (LEP) patients. Finally, future implementation of interpreter logs will provide data and greater indication of the need and volume of interpreting within Mountain Park clinics.
