After the 5th day Twigs started to deteriorate, the wound was re-opened slightly to discover an abscess which was drained. This showed little improvement for Twigs resulting in a second operation to flush the wound.
Our beautiful 5-year-old riding horse, the 15.2hh bay mare, TB x cob, out of top class cob Toggi by the well-known Infantry.
Bought from Lancashire in 2009 as an unbroken 3-year-old, we have had a fantastic 2 years with Twigs, she took everything in her stride. She has been an absolute pleasure to own, all we could have hoped for and more.
On 9th November we had to take Twigs to Newmarket following a hock injury in the field. After x-rays and tests we were advised the superficial tendon was split 5cm and the wound was so deep it had gone into the bursa. She was taken

Despite Newmarket’s best efforts and aggressive management there was further deterioration, the infection had spread to the tendon and bursa and was too severe for them to treat. On 19th November we made the sad decision to have her put to sleep. Twigs will be greatly missed, she was one in a million and will always have a special place in our hearts.

De Aston school news
The De Aston School Equestrian Team Presentation evening took place at the Middle Rasen Church Hall on Friday 9th December. It was a great evening and a chance to thank the sponsors, the children and parents for their kind support and dedication to the first Equestrian Team the school has ever had.
The trophy winners were: Kurt Roddy - Most Improved Rider presented by Anna Graham MD of Industrial Driver Services, Eleanor Olley - Best Non-Jumping Member and Charlotte Emmerson - Best Fund Raiser both presented by Mark Dann, MD of Cardsave UK and Darbi
Murphy won the Perpetual Trophy for the Best Member presented by Mr John Fox from the Market Rasen Lions Club. Other members Africa Walker, Beth Sharpe and Laurel Kavanagh were presented with their team colours for representing the school. Also receiving awards were Sarah Howard, Danni Blanch and Louis Mcternan. The team manager Sandra Murphy said “The children have done so well this year by qualifying for the National Championships and competing for the school in various regional competitions and we hope to qualify early in 2012 for the next Championships.”
