JAS Jumping & Style Prepare for the season ahead with British Eventing and Baileys
What better way to prepare for the season ahead than with the British Eventing Baileys winter training competitions? Both the Jumping and Style (JAS) and Jump Training series start in January 2012 and are available to both members and non- members.
Jane Buchan, Marketing Manager for Baileys says “BE’s winter training series are great for blowing away winter cobwebs and getting focused on the season ahead. It’s also a good time to consider how a horse’s diet can affect performance and we thoroughly enjoy meeting and talking to those who take part.”
Jump Training offers a unique opportunity to get the experienced eye of our Coaches in a competition environment at a range of venues, from January through to April and is structured to offer coaching throughout the competition experience: Phase 1: walk the course with the BE Accredited Coach Phase 2: guided working in – each rider receives a guided warm-up individually from one of the Coaches prior to Phase 3 Phase 3: The competition – competitors jump one round under the watchful eye of a Coach and then receive feedback and advice before jumping again. Both rounds are scored on the rider’s position
and ability, the horse’s style and any jumping faults. The scores are added together to provide an overall score. Full information is available to download from www.

The JAS series is a tried and tested way of getting you and your horse in a competition environment before starting the eventing season. Combinations are judged on style as well as technique whilst jumping a course of show jumps and cross- country fences. The ‘style’ mark is awarded and converted to penalty points which are added to cross- country time and ‘jumping’ penalties incurred during both phases; the winners will be the combination with the lowest penalty score at the end of the competition (full rules available on the schedule).
You can win prizes including feed vouchers from Baileys Horse Feeds and Training Vouchers up to the value of £500 for winners of each section at both the series finals. Schedule available from www.
britisheventing.com/JAS.
Local JAS fixtures include: Bishop Burton on 28th January, Vale View on 11th February, and Arena UK on 18th February. All entries open in January. There are other qualifiers further afield for the finals at Addington on 25th February.
Beth is Junior Sportsperson of the Year
Congratulations to Beth Vernon, who was awarded Junior Sportsperson of the Year on 12 December at the Mansfield Sports Awards. The Junior Sportsperson title was hotly contested with 8 other athletes shortlisted for the title. Beth’s mum Allyson said ‘there were some brilliant young sports people at the awards ceremony. I hadn’t realised that Mansfield has so many good athletes and we were thrilled and surprised that Beth won!’
2011 has been a year of dream making for 15 year old Beth Vernon. Not only has she achieved team and individual gold at the Pony European Championships but she has also had numerous successes in three other international competitions (British
Masters, CSIOP Hagen, CSIO PJYch Zilveren, Belgium where she was placed 1st) and numerous winnings at national events such as Pony of the Year Show and The Blue Chip Championships.
Beth is an extremely talented rider who works hard balancing her school and riding commitments. Beth has been riding since the age of 3 when she was given a little pony called Royal and had lessons from a local rider and coach, Karen Peck. At 9 years old Beth decided that Showjumping was her favourite discipline and started to train with British Showjumping coach Liane Smith. Beth’s success was also recently recognised at the British Showjumping Awards Ball where she was awarded the title of Best Pony Rider of the Year.
