Change… For Better or Worse.

It has become ‘fashionable’ to talk rather glibly about personal change, personal development and our potential for growth. These are important issues and central to moving forward to a more successful, confident, fulfilling life. Anything is possible… but sometime it is not so easy for all of us to achieve.

At this time of year the media latches on to the need for making changes, in the guise of simple ‘New Year Resolutions’. Drink less, eat less, stop smoking and take more exercise, all good healthy options for 2012. Many of us start the New Year with good intentions but not so many achieve our goal. Why? We do not ‘change our thoughts’! There are two major sources of change:

* Change that originates from an external force… Not of our choosing.

External influences that pressurise us to change can cause pain, confusion and unhappiness. If we are to cope with the pressures of change that are not of our making, we have to make serious adjustments to survive in order to move forward on life’s journey. Inevitable choices are forced upon us!

* Change that originates from inside us… Our choice. These changes involve an element of risk but the choice is

ours. Internally originated change places the outcome firmly on our shoulders. It is our choice! We are taking responsibility for the outcome of our future journey in life. Self-initiated change also requires us to be flexible and adjust to the consequences of our choice. All change is opportunity but staying still and ‘knowing’ is comfortable. Although we may be unhappy and discontented with our ‘lot’ to do something about it is often a little frightening. It is easier to stay in a ‘rut’ and sometimes blame others for our discontent.

Taking responsibility for yourself may be risky, challenging even … but it can also be exciting and rewarding. If this is your dilemma, perhaps ‘nagging’ thoughts ‘swim’ around in your mind.

* WHAT IF…? There are no lasting quick ‘fixes’ in life. We need to take time to look within ourselves before we can hope to make changes for the better. There is an ancient Chinese saying, “You can change the town, but you cannot change the Well.” (Real happiness and fulfilment come from within). Taking Reiki into my life has helped me to look within and make changes for the better. Working as a therapeutic counsellor helping clients to deal with the ‘stark reality’ of life blends well with the self- healing therapy of ‘real’ Reiki. It is never to late to learn something new! In fact, it is exciting!

* Will change be beneficial? * What will people think of me if I change? * I can’t be that flexible!

Reiki Course… beginners ‘Level I’ will be on Sunday 29th January 2012. Do you need help to make changes? “Change your thoughts …Change your life!” For sensitive counselling support (in complete confidence) or “Reiki” courses/treatments.
