Are you suffering from exposure to asbestos?
I have recently returned from seeing clients in Torrevieja and Almeria both of whom are suffering from asbestos related conditions.
In fact in the 12 months I have noticed an increasing number of enquiries from ex-pats, particularly in Spain. One of the reasons for this is that as people get older, it is not unusual for breathing problems to start, or to become worse. With investigations problems with shortness of breath are sometimes attributed to exposure to asbestos.
Exposure to asbestos can cause a number of conditions from mesothelioma (a specific type of lung cancer), lung cancer, asbestosis, diffuse pleural thickening and pleural plaques.
Unfortunately, particularly in the 1950’s and 1960’s, asbestos was in widespread use in circumstances where workers were not given any protection.
It was not just those working in the
manufacture of asbestos products or in the lagging industry who came into contact with asbestos. All sorts of tradesmen including plumbers, electricians, carpenters and plasterers came into contact with asbestos during their working lives because they worked on sites where asbestos was in widespread use. Unfortunately, it is not necessary for a worker to handle asbestos himself, he can be exposed to large amounts of asbestos dust just by working close by others. Even worse, there are situations where wives and other family members have contracted asbestos related conditions because they handled clothing covered in asbestos dust.
In my experience because asbestos was not widely used in Spain the link between breathing difficulties and exposure to asbestos is not always immediately recognised. This can make diagnosis difficult.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with an asbestos related condition or has breathing problems and has come into contact with asbestos in the UK, you may be entitled to claim damages.
I am happy to talk to anyone free of charge about their individual situations to see if a claim for damages is possible. I can be contacted on 00 44 1244 340560, at
