uilding work has commenced on the transformation of two building sites in Westcliff into
century and due to
open in the Spring of 2013. Turf turning ceremonies on the
developments in North Road and Valkyrie Road were attended by Katherine Kirk, chairman of NHS South East Essex and Stephen Jacobs O.B.E., chairman of South East Essex LIFT. The North Road site was formerly
used for industrial purposes, whilst the Valkyrie Road site is a former snooker hall. Kate Bargery, assistant general manager for SEEL commented: “We are delighted that construction work is underway and that the local com- munity is now one step closer to ben- efiting from two new state-of-the-art premises in which to receive first class healthcare close to home. “The new facilities, scheduled to
open in the Spring of 2013, will be something local people can be proud of – our aim has always been to provide the community with an accessible, modern and pleasant to use health centre.” SEEL brings together a wealth of
knowledge and expertise, in both the public and private sector, to be able to design, construct, finance and maintain the building of new Primary Care Centres in communities across South East Essex. Kate Bargery added: “We are
responsible for managing the whole of the Westlcliff Primary Care Centres’ project from concept stage through to delivery. This remit includes negoti- ating and raising capital through the banks and other funders, liaising with insurers, risk management and ensuring that the whole supply chain operates cohesively and to the required standards. “As part of the outline business case an analysis of the available pro-
relocating into the North Road Primary Care Centre are West Road Surgery, Central Surgery in Boston Avenue and Dr Gul in Westborough Road. The current Valkyrie Road Surgery will be moving over to the new Valkyrie Road Centre just a short walk away. “A broad range of services will be
offered by the two new Centres including GP surgeries, a pharmacy, blood taking and community nursing services. Hopefully, they will become a community hub, which will be used by both local groups and residents,” added Kate Bargery. Kate Halliday, estate service
planning manager, NHS South East Essex, commented: “We are delighted that the building
work has now begun. It is vital that healthcare buildings continue to improve to be able to ensure that a range of high quality, modern serv- ices are delivered in the community. By offering a wide range of healthcare services closer to patients’ homes, we will be able to transform health- care provision in the area and ensure the health needs of the local resi- dents are met.”
