Innovative, electric radiators from Electrorad Electrorad supply an innovative range of electric radiators. There is no need for any pipework or plumbing; each radiator just needs a 13 amp power supply. The radiators look just like regular central heating radiators and supply the same quality of heat. There will be no maintenance or inspections required. Each radiator has its own room thermostat and programming system ensur- ing that energy usage is always kept to a
minimum and every room is exactly the temperature required. The radiators are rated 100 per cent energy efficient. Being electric, this heating system is fully compatible with all micro-generation and renewable technologies.

Lee Housing Association is a community-based organisation that aims to provide good quality accommodation. Swan House was originally built for stu- dents, split into four blocks, each block contains four 5-shares and eight 2-shares and all are served by the original underfloor heating system since 1979. Climate Facilities, a Space Air / Daikin approved dealer, offered and installed the com- plete Space Air Daikin Altherma HT System. Each block now consists of 2 x 16kW heat pump units a total of 128kW with a nominal COP of 3.08 (the original system had a nominal COP of 0.8 when installed). The underfloor heating system has been replaced with radiators provided with TRV’s (thermostatic radi- ator valves) for residents to control the internal temperature. Independent reports suggest that by replacing the old under-floor electric system with the Space Air Daikin Altherma HT high temperature heat pump provides a 68 per cent reduction in heating fuel use and cost and a payback period of 15 years.
