and airy central atrium ‘agora’ social space allow- ing the activity spaces to be viewed and imme- diately legible upon entering the building. Within the new 120-station fitness suite and two

dance studios, the installation of 20 Thermatex Sonic Sky rafts provide a stylish and effective acoustic solution. Ruta Makunaite of Precise Partitions, who carried out the installations, explained: “The Sonic Sky rafts had to be fitted around pre-installed fan coil units, which meant the rafts had to be manufactured with precise cuts to work around them. We were impressed with the service from Knauf AMF as each raft fitted perfectly, needing no additional adjustments. This made installation much simpler for us, and the finished result looks superb.” The acoustic panels have a high quality fleece-

coated face and the system is designed to be easy to install with semi-concealed hangers pro- viding an elegant floating appearance. Additional ceiling solutions included Thermatex

Thermaclean S tiles to meet high hygiene levels for the kitchen, toilets and the entrance to the pools, while Thermatex Fine Stratos tiles give a clean, contemporary finish for the changing rooms. The meeting rooms and certain corridors required a higher degree of sound attenuation so 800m² of acoustic tiles were installed in these areas. In addition, the planning application included

a £5 million OurPlace youth facility, for which a funding application has been submitted to Big Lottery Fund. OurPlace has been developed in partnership with young people across the borough and will provide them with the facilities and serv- ices they want and need: IT, music and arts spaces, advice and wellbeing services, all housed in a welcoming and iconic new building, as well as an outdoor multi use games area, BMX and skateboarding facilities. The centre will provide services for young people in a manner that suits them and in a place where they feel comfortable. There will also be a range of opportunities to gain new skills through participation in activities and volunteering to help run the centre. These new facilities will be located on the

same campus as Huyton Arts and Sports Centre for Learning. Together these will form a wider Leisure and Culture Park campus, which will transform the local environment. “It’s great that we are now able to offer such

fantastic facilities in Knowsley,” said Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s cabinet member for Leisure, Community and Culture. “Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park really does

offer world class facilities and I’d encourage every- one to have a look around and use what’s on offer.” A 400-metre outdoor velodrome with a BMX track in the middle will open in December.
