In two RIBA assessed seminars Comar outlines Stand & Deliver: a study of curtain walling; the design of curtain walling, its properties and how it is used by specifiers. This seminar aims to offer an understanding of the points of H11 in the NBS specification system and how best to make use of it. Designing Function & Reliability into Entrance – the issues that influ- ence the function of main entrance design and technology, aims to offer an understanding of how user expec- tation influences door design and links this with hardware selection, entrance configuration and floor fin- ishes to improve client satisfaction.

Building acoustics is a potentially baf- fling subject but Sound Reduction Systems (SRS) can make the subject much clearer when they present their seminar ‘Noise and its control’. Each hour long session covers some of the fundamentals of acoustics, clari- fies the terminology used and explains the application of these ideas in building designs. The sessions are offered free of charge to relevant professionals who may need assis- tance specifying details and materi- als. Guidance on the “Design opportuni- ties in composite rainscreen technol- ogy” is now available in a RIBA approved CPD from global cladding manufacturer Steni. The hour long presentation defines composite materials, specifically fibre reinforced polymers (FRP), and talks specifiers through the environmental issues, fixing options, material properties, manufacturing process, and tex- tures, colours and shapes, giving more than a dozen stunning refer- ence projects. Steni’s CPD reveals how composites were developed to be lightweight but strong and corro- sion-resistant materials.

The Concrete Pipeline Systems Association (CPSA) has extended their training programme for industry professionals with the launch of a new CPD accredited presentation ‘Embodied Carbon Emissions in Con- crete and Other Pipeline Materials’. The new CPD presentation explains the fundamentals of carbon account- ing and the data required to produce a carbon footprint, identifies recog- nised information sources and indi- cates limitations to the reliability of some data and provides an overview of other environmental impacts such as responsible sourcing, recycling and embodied energy.
