The prospects for a recovery in con- struction output weakened still further as the latest new orders figures from the Office of National Statics for the third quarter showed a fall of more than 5 per cent compared with the same quarter last year. New orders in the first nine months of 2011 are 14 per cent lower than in the same period last year. Commenting on these figures, the Construction Products Association chief executive, Michael Ankers said: “Although new orders have improved since the previous quarter, this is still the lowest figure for Q3 since 1980...” Ref: 95413

Infrastructure, support services and construction group Robertson has begun work on an extension to the Michelin Factory in Dundee. The £2.2 million project is part of an ongoing pro- gramme of development and invest- ment in the Dundee plant, which has included, in recent years, the construc- tion of two large wind turbines, which are now familiar landmarks on the Dundee skyline. This latest investment signals a period of growth in production and growth in the number of employees at the plant.

Earlier this month, Rockwool helped Archial to transform a tired barge into the energy-efficient Vine Trust charity headquarters and secure a Glasgow Institute of Architects Award for the project.
