Key-free access to entrance doors Hardware specialist VBH now offers affordable key-free door access from stock in the shape of Yale Keyfree, an exciting new development in entrance door security. Keyfree allows a door to be locked and unlocked electronically, either by remote control using a sender in a key fob (similar to that used with cars) or by typing in a user defined PIN code on the inbuilt keypad. Keyfree is a battery powered stand-alone product so requires no mains connection, which can be troublesome and expensive. The
unit will issue a low-power warning in plenty of time to allow the batteries to be changed but there are mechanical and electrical back ups.

Hot stuff – new PVCu clad glazing bead product Yeoman Shield has launched the Yeoman Shield PVCu clad door glazing bead. The hardwood PVCu clad glazing bead provides an innovative solution to protect- ing exposed timber glazing beads, which are vulnera- ble to damage and an essential addition for new doors and a cost effective replacement for damaged doors. As the glazing bead forms part of the integrity of fire doors, research carried out by Yeoman Shield resulted in an effective method to protect the beads, which has undergone stringent fire testing to both EN and BS standards for use on either ½ hour or one hour doors without affecting or compromising the fire door. Bournville College ventilated by WindowMaster Bournville College has re-opened at its new Longbridge campus in Birmingham. As part of a total investment of £66 million in the project, WindowMaster has supplied natural ventilation control systems for various buildings around the campus. WindowMaster was selected because it was able to provide a model for an innova- tive and cost-effective natural ventilation solution that worked according to the con-
sultants’ brief. WindowMaster, Europe’s largest provider of natural comfort and smoke ventilation solutions, was chosen to provide the window automation system for Bournville College because of its ability to provide a complete instal- lation, in particular the central computer control system. The installation includes window actuators, various sensors and a weather station.
