Macbryde Homes’ alternative to enclosing stairwells When Macbryde Homes embarked on design- ing a terrace of 21/2 storey homes in Llandudno Junction, they were faced with the problem of providing a cost effective and appropriate fire protection solution. MacBryde Homes was already aware of a solution, which would over- come the potential problems and facilitate the open plan design. The alternative was Automist from Plumis, which uses a high pressure pump to generate a fine water suppression mist from nozzles, which can be mounted under a stan-

dard monobloc mixing tap, stand alone on a work top, a wall or as in this case on the side of the staircase with the pump assembly hidden under the staircase.

Winter fire safety alert

The prospect of another cold winter, com- bined with high energy prices, presents householders with real difficulties, particularly the most vulnerable. One danger that is often overlooked is the failure of smoke alarms to operate properly at low temperatures. Kidde’s TEN-4 battery powered smoke alarm is more tolerant of low ambient temperature –with an operating range starting from 0°C. Kidde’s TEN-4 smoke alarm has a unique ‘silent night’ early warning feature for low battery level with

a flashing LED and no sound. Just one press of the ‘Test/Hush’ button resets the alarm to normal operation.

Uretek appointed by Council Bath & North East Somerset Council appointed Uretek UK to undertake major roadwork repairs on both the A363 (Sally in the Woods) and the A367 at Dunkerton. Uretek were brought in to fill voids in both roads using their deep injection polymer resin system. The major benefit of the Uretek system was that it would minimise traffic disruption and dramatically reduce

the time taken to do the work. The polymer resin was injected at varying depths to fill each void and consolidate the loose ground. During this process the Uretek polymer expands up to 30 times its liquid volume to fill all the voids. This process removes the settlement problem almost immediately as the chemical reaction is 98 per cent completed within seconds and the set polymer reaches 90 per cent of its powerful compressive strength within 15 minutes.

Resin bonded pathways helps keep park users fit Boston Manor Park in Brentford Middlesex is a large historic park surrounding Boston Manor House, which was built in 1623. Today the park helps promote a healthy lifestyle to local residents by providing facilities for physical activities for all ages. Specialist contractors, Oakleigh Manor, recently surfaced a new pathway in the park with RonaDeck Resin Bonded Surfacing to provide a hard wearing, slip-resistant and

easily maintained finish to the paving, making it suitable for walkers and joggers. A pavement finished with RonaDeck Resin Bonded Surfacing makes life much easier for people pushing prams or using wheelchairs than loose gravel surfaces, without compromising the appearance. Rounded Sepia gravel was selected to blend with the surroundings and provide slip-resistance.
