mum Denise Bell has taken to the skies to
raise money for her favourite charity.
Extreme fund raiser Denise threw herself out of an aeroplane 12,000 feet over the skies of Kent despite being afraid of heights.
She said: “I was petrifi ed but I had to go through with it. Would I do it again? Defi nitely not!”
The jump, in which she was coupled with a professional skydiver, is expected to raise around £700 for the Lion Ward at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill. “I kept telling myself how the money might be spent on the ward”, she said. The original idea was that she would accompany a friend on the jump, who then had to pull out.
Denise also organised last month’s masked ball at the Tudor Barn on behalf of the MS Society for people suff ering from multiple sclerosis and King’s. Next year, she plans to climb the decking of HMS Warrior in Portsmouth Harbour, again to raise funds for charity. “I feel it’s my way of putting something back”, she said.
Denise is unable to work because two of her three children, Sid and Emily, have
Denise’s interest in King’s College came when a friend’s daughter was treated there for meningitis.
Her day of skydiving saw her attaining speeds of around 200mph falling towards the ground after jumping clear of the plane. After 45 seconds of free fall, their parachute was opened and she was able to steer her descent to the ground.
