SEnine Leg-upcy? SPY SPECIAL All things horsey

Our new local schools are undoubted big benefactors an Olympic legacy with sporting facilities which will be in use long after the Games have fi nished.

But is SPY alone in having doubts about the equestrian legacy facility which the council has given itself planning permission for?

While SPY can envisage judo, basketball and soccer heroes being bred at the school facilities, it’s harder to see the same for the horse centre. It would cost competitors a fortune in clobber and stabling to get a fi rst rung on the equestrian circuit, not very likely for people from ordinary backgrounds. In truth, the centre is really the result of a bung from Sport England and the British Equestrian Federation with the aim of box ticking legacy and nose- thumbing at the Greenwich Park neigh- sayers. Another aim which has been dragooned in to help sweeten the pill is the prospect of training places for townee children to become grooms and jockeys. Isn’t that better done in places like Newmarket and Lambourne, where they have adequate space?

Olympic rings..

Don't worry about the planning permission hurdle boys, we've got it covered .... Tally Ho!!!!

Rugby Club at Well Hall isn’t a Sainsbury’s megastore. Greenwich University, who owned the site, had tried, successfully, to get it rezoned

John Prescott correctly spiked it, to the lasting benefi t of the town. However, on this occasion, there isn’t much chance of Caroline Spellman, environment secretary, being able to bin an Olympic legacy proposal.

Perhaps another cycle ride to Brussels for the Oxleas campaigners, a manoeuvre

which ended the Oxleas Woods dual carriageway nonsense?

Horse nonsense…

One thing sticking in the throats of opponents was the deception, which can only have been deliberate, in the documents prepared by the council on behalf of the application, which stated that there were no horse riding facilities with fi ve miles. This overlooks three to SPY’s certain knowledge.
