WHO’S MOVING UP & WHO’S MOVING ON


INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION


CENTRE (ICC) Paul Rutherford (1) has joined the International Convention Centre (ICC) as general manager.


As such, he will oversee all


operational elements of the city centre venue. Paul has joined the ICC from tour operator Page & Moy, where he worked for more than three years as commercial director. At Page & Moy he was involved in dealing with various tourism crises, including the volcanic ash cloud and the Japanese tsunami. He said: “The ICC has helped Birmingham become renowned for being one of the leading business destinations in the country, and I’m very excited about this new opportunity to develop the business as the venue approaches its 21st anniversary next April.” Paul will work closely with


Catherine Newhall-Caiger who has moved into a new role as business development director of the ICC’s management team.


NEC


Birmingham’s NEC has made two new key appointments, including that of Brian Pell (2), who has joined as director of operations. Mr Pell was formerly responsible


for the Westfield group of shopping centres, which includes Merry Hill.


He has more than 25 years’


experience of facilities services, estates management and maintenance engineering. He said: “With the £120 million


investment in Resorts World at the NEC, soon to be taking shape, I’m really looking forward to being part of the team on the journey to delivering ‘Destination NEC’.” The NEC also has a new


conference account manager, Louise Hankinson (3), who was formerly senior sales executive at The Belfry.


BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT


Birmingham Airport has recruited William Pearson (4) as head of route development. He has joined from Manchester Airport, where he was head of aviation sales. William, 44, is a familiar face

within the aviation industry and previously set up and managed the Birmingham arm of Airport Coordination Ltd (ACL) in 1994, providing advice on airline planned schedules and coordination services. He has also worked for British Airways in a sales role. Martyn Lloyd, Birmingham


Airport’s air services development director, said: “This is a strategic appointment and William will take forward our route development strategy, playing an important part in building relationships with potential new airlines to grow our route network as well as working with our existing business partners.”


ELMHURST SCHOOL


FOR DANCE Elmhurst School for Dance has appointed Robert Parker (5) as its new artistic director. Currently a principal dancer with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Hull-born Parker trained at The Royal Ballet School and joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1994. He was promoted to principal in 1999. He has recently completed the Birmingham Royal Ballet and University of Birmingham dancers’ degree programme and will graduate in December 2011 as a Master of Philosophy in Education Studies (Dance). Jessica Ward, principal of


Elmhurst School for Dance, said: “It will be a privilege for the students and staff to have the opportunity to work with such a celebrated dancer.”


BMI HEALTHCARE A new role is on the menu for former chef Tony Yates (6), who has taken over as executive director at two Birmingham private hospitals. After more than 20 years working


in private healthcare, Mr Yates has taken the top role at both BMI The Priory and BMI The Edgbaston Hospitals. He has replaced former executive director Keith Cunningham, who has moved to BMI Healthcare’s Droitwich Spa Hospital. Starting out as head chef at The


Gloucester Clinic in 1989, Mr Yates moved to the management side of operations and went on to study marketing and business administration before becoming hospital manager at the West Midlands Hospital in Halesowen, in 2001.

HARVEY INGRAM Midlands' law firm Harvey Ingram has appointed five new trainee solicitors. They are Kyla Brucciani, Nicole Rigden, Kerry Russell, Emma Perkins and James Thurgood (7). All five have now started a two-


year training programme with the firm.


Senior partner Stephen Woolfe said: " It was clear from the outset that they were all exceptional individuals displaying all the potential to become top lawyers. We're looking forward to helping nurture such a talented and personable group."
