Flexible celebrates with first customer

A West Midlands vehicle contracts specialist is celebrating its 15th anniversary – and still has the first customer it had when it opened its doors in 1996. Barton-based Flexible Vehicle Contracts

is still supplying vehicles to print technology firm Alto Digital, and over the years has provided the company with more than 1,000 vehicles. Flexible director Phil Roberts said: “It’s a sign of the strength of the relationship between our two companies that we are still supplying vehicles to Alto Digital 15 years after we delivered our first car to them. I think that says a lot about the levels of service we’ve delivered over the years and it’s why so many of our customers come back to us for vehicles time and time again.” Alto Digital has a fleet of around 150

vehicles. Facilities manager Mike Winyard said: “Flexible are a key supplier to me. They provide a diversified product range, at a competitive price.”

Academy officially opens F

ormer Tory leader Iain Duncan-Smith and ex-soccer star Stuart Pearce were among those at the official opening of a new information technology (IT) academy at Burton College. Mr Duncan-Smith is currently Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Stuart Pearce coaches England’s Under-21 team. The new academy has been set up by American giant Microsoft, to help students of all ages to

develop as IT practitioners, web developers and database administrators. The academy will also offer courses for locally based office workers, in applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The college launched the academy after a report by e-skills UK highlighted that the technology

profession needs another 110,000 recruits this year. College chief executive Dawn Ward said: “Colleges have a vital role to play in supporting people of all ages to develop the knowledge and skills relevant to employment trends. “The Microsoft academy is yet another example of the college working with high profile companies in order to meet skills gaps and to give our students the best possible chance of career success.”

Ball in aid of air ambulance

£6m to run, and yet receives no funding from the taxpayer. The service uses three helicopters, based at

Cosford, Tatenhill (near Burton) and Strensham services on the M5.
