An elderly woman decided to have her portrait painted. She told the artist” Paint me with diamond earrings, a diamond necklace, emerald bracelets, a ruby broach, and gold Rolex." "But you are not wearing any of those things" replied the artist. "I know," she said. "It's in case I should die before my husband. I'm sure he will remarry right away, and I want his new wife to go crazy looking for the jewellery."

Bobby’s Blog Friendly advice from your local Bobby on the Beat PC 2559 Andrew Sarchet Great Harwood police Station: 01254 353334 Crime stoppers 0800 555 111 Youth Pro Social Event & Road Safety. Recently the Great Harwood, Rishton, Clayton le Moors and Altham Neighbourhood Pol icing Teams recruited local youths who agreed to volunteer to pack road safety bags containing amongst other items high visibility jackets. The youths who took part were later rewarded with a fun day out skating in Blackburn. Now the Neighbourhood Policing Teams will attend local primary schools and together with teachers will educate the young pupils about road safety. The youngest pupils will receive the packed road safety bags. The funding and road safety packs were provided by the Hyndburn Community Safety partnership with the aim of improving road safety and reducing casualties. Distraction Burglary Officers are asking residents to be on the alert due to a recent distraction burglary where an elderly lady was deceived by a male entering her home address claiming to be from the water board. The bogus male entered the address asking to check the water pressure due to recent work having been carried out in the area. A second male then also entered and stole items from the ladies address.
These types of criminals tend to target
elderly persons as they see them as easy targets. We ask that neighbours look out for their elderly neighbours and report any concerns to the police. Email:

How can we improve Great Harwood? – Everyone Welcome to give their views On Friday evening, November 11th, the residents of Great Harwood will have the opportunity to give their ideas on how things can be improved in our town if all the various associations and communities can work more closely and build on the good work currently taking place. The event will be held at the Bank Mill House Senior Citizens Centre starting at 7.00pm and will be co-hosted by the Great Harwood Mosques and the Great Harwood Churches Together. It is expected that the town’s local Councillors and representatives of the many voluntary organisations in the area will be in attendance to add to the discussion. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along, take part in the debate and enjoy the food which will be served at the end of the evening.
